The core values of MOtiVE Brooklyn emerged from these four words DREAM, EXCHANGE, MOVE and SUPPORT.
This project started from the idea of a DREAM…
What if we had a space where we could invite artists? What if the artists came first rather than the institution? What if producing something wasn’t the main focus of the space? What if we were to create international and local programs for EXCHANGE where artists could experience new perspectives? What if we were able to offer classes that challenged the way we MOVE together and alongside each other? What if we start working from what we have? What happens when we SUPPORT artists through sustainable structures?
DREAM
Being in a dream state is where you look to the future while enjoying where you are now. We believe artists create better futures for us all. This is the heart of what we do— creating conditions for artists to practice, imagine and try things. You’ll find our tailored residency programs, pedagogical practice proposals and artists we support.
MOVE
MOtiVE believes that movement is an essential practice to achieve your goals. We believe in moving together not only in the studio but for social change. Under this section you’ll find our year-round class offerings and seasonal workshops. We like to challenge the content and format for pedagogical practice.
EXCHANGE
Our philosophy is in multiplicity. We want artists to practice in a variety of viewpoints while experimenting in new places and with different people. We created international and national exchanges with our partner organizations to establish more exciting opportunities for communities world-wide.
SUPPORT
It’s mutual. We need to play both roles: the holding and the being held. We are dedicated to building a new community oriented space and delivering on our promise to facilitate alternative ways of engagement with artists. We seek your support to keep MOtiVE Brooklyn sustainable especially as an artistic space in New York City emerging within the pandemic climate.
