LULU OBERMAYER
Lulu Obermayer works with performance, opera, theater and choreography as a means to undo deeply embedded ideas of female representation on stage. After studying acting in New York, she graduated with a BAhons in Contemporary Performance Practice from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (2014) and a MA in Solo Dance and Authorship from the University of the Arts in Berlin (2017). Since then she developed a trilogy of solo performances based on Puccini operas Tosca (2016), Manon Lescaut (2017) and The Girl(s) of the Golden West, which were presented at Münchner Kammerspiele, Hebbel am Ufer (Berlin), HochX, Batard Festival (Brussels), TrenteTrente Bordeaux, among others. In 2020 she premiered her first ensemble piece L’Opra Fatale at Opera Graz commissioned by Steirischer Herbst and was nominated for the Caroline Neuber Award. In 2022 she premiers a solo at Sophiensaele and a ensemble piece with 8 singers in Antwerp.
